Dear
Daphene,
I made
it home safe and sound. Unfortunately, I am paying the price (in
fatigue) for my trip. But, I knew what the price would be, and I
was glad to pay it for the experience I received.
I want to again tell you how wonderful the clinic was. I was a little
hesitant for 2 reasons, One- I am Catholic and I didn't know how
that would go over in a Baptist church, and Two- I was trying to
figure out how you could see so many patients in a day without herding
them through like cattle.
Almost immediately upon entering the church, my worries were put
to rest. I received a wonderful welcome, very individualized care
in an extremely efficient manner. When I saw Dr. Van Pelt, he wanted
to pray before he treated me, and this made me feel much better.
I have prayed with my patients that requested it, and I was glad
that I didn't even need to ask.
When I came back the next day to volunteer, I was amazed at your
ability to run the clinic as efficiently as you did, but even more
impressive was the fact that each patient got very
individualized attention, and I don't believe that even one person
felt like they were not cared for.
This is always how I have wanted to give patient care, but I have
found that it is very difficult in most cases because of understaffing
or poor patient flow, and that most hospitals or clinics that I
have worked at don't seem to see the benefit of having each patient
truly feel like they were cared for as an individual (child of God).
So, I am looking forward to seeing you in October. Again, thank
you very much for getting me into the clinic.
